Charity
Everyone faces challenges and obstacles during their life regardless of their position or wealth. But, regardless of how much we feel we may have suffered ,or be suffering, there are always many more people across the world that are suffering the kind of plight which makes anything we may have experienced, or be experiencing, pale in insignificance.
As we speak there are a billion people at risk of dying through starvation. Millions more die because they don’t have access to inexpensive medicines. Diseases for which we presently have no cure continue to spread. The world is facing a water crisis which is likely to us as well as future generations. These are just a few challenges that our world faces today.
During my lowest moments it was this thought that kept me going, and why I made a moral pledge to do whatever I could do to help improve the world we live in for both present and future generations.
The main question in my mind was how to make the biggest impact that I could. For me, the answer lay in the fact that, whilst I could make a difference alone, if I were able to inspire other people or businesses to think and work in the same way, the collective impact we would make would be far greater than any individual effort. So it was with this thought that I founded The Caring Enterprise Scheme.
The Caring Enterprise Scheme is a simple scheme that recognises like minded businesses that are willing to pledge a minimum 1% of their profits to good causes each and every year. In return for making and maintaining the pledge, members can display the We Care or Caring Enterprise symbol on their website, so that their present and potential customers are aware that they are dealing with an enterprise that cares about the world we live in, and not one that is not just all out for itself or its shareholders. The Caring Enterprise Scheme is open to businesses of all sizes, whether they are sole traders or multi national companies.
As the founder of the scheme and in order to lead from the front, I have pledged that all of my ventures will donate a minimum 10% of profits each and every year to causes that will help address the ills of our world. And over the course of my life, my intention is to increase that donation to 100% at which point the ventures will become social enterprises being managed as such.
